GPT-4 Turbo: OpenAI Dev Day 2023 Announcements

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT and GPT-4, held its first-ever developer conference, DevDay, on Monday in a downtown San Francisco event venue. In his keynote address, Sam Altman said, “Even though this is a developer conference, we can't resist making some improvements to ChatGPT—a small one. ChatGPT now uses GPT-4 Turbo, with all the latest improvements, including the latest knowledge cut-off, which will continue to update. That’s all live today.”

He introduced several new products and features, including:

• GPT-4 Turbo: A new GPT-4 version with 128K context and a lower price.

• GPT-4 Turbo can be accessed via the API by passing gpt-4-1106-preview, with a stable production-ready model release scheduled later this year.‍

Updated GPT-3.5 Turbo:

• The new gpt-3.5-turbo-1106 comes equipped with 16K context, and a 4x longer context is available at a lower price: $0.001/1K input, $0.002/1K output. You can also fine-tune this 16K model.
• Fine-tuned GPT-3.5 is significantly less expensive to use, with input token costs falling by 75% to $0.003/1K and output token prices falling by 62% to $0.006/1K.
• The GPT-3.5-turbo-1106 joins the GPT-4 Turbo family, offering enhanced function calling and reliable outputs.‍

Chat GPT assistants API:

• They released the beta version of their new Assistants API, which allows developers to easily develop agent-like experiences in their applications. A natural language-based data analysis tool, a coding assistant, an AI-powered vacation planner, a voice-controlled DJ, a smart visual canvas—the possibilities are endless.
